The Founder

Casey Dofoo is the founder of The Independent Economic Class movement and the architect behind The Gig Economy Playbook™.

Independent Economic Class is the term used to identify modern workers who participate in income-generating platforms without being employees or traditional business owners. It describes an emerging category of individuals who operate independently within the modern economy.

His work challenges long-standing assumptions about work, wealth, and personal economic identity. Rather than treating precarious workers—otherwise known as gig workers—as well as freelancers and independent earners as temporary labour, Casey frames this emerging population as a legitimate and under-recognized class of economic participants.

Casey’s mission is straightforward: to provide ordinary people with the structural literacy once reserved for corporations, accountants, and institutions. Through accessible language and real-world frameworks, he teaches individuals how to transform income into a controlled economic entity rather than a survival mechanism.

His research and lived experience demonstrate that wealth creation is not exclusive to entrepreneurs with storefronts, investors with capital, or graduates of business schools. It becomes possible when individuals are shown how modern corporate structure works — step by step, in plain language — and how to apply it to the income they already earn. This belief forms the cornerstone of The Independent Economic Class, a term he formalized to give identity and legitimacy to millions who earn income outside traditional employment yet participate fully in the economic system.

Casey’s work rejects the outdated notion that a “business” requires employees, commercial space, or physical infrastructure. He asserts that a business is not a location. A business is a structure that converts earned income into retained wealth. His teachings demystify this transformation and empower individuals to take control of their financial outcomes, regardless of their trade, skill set, or background.

The Gig Economy Playbook™ is the embodiment of this philosophy. It serves as both curriculum and reference, enabling readers to reframe their status—not as precarious workers, but as independent economic entities capable of growth, protection, and strategic participation in the marketplace.

Today, Casey continues to advance this movement by developing tools, education, and resources that support the Independent Economic Class across Canada and beyond. His work bridges the gap between labour and ownership for people who were historically excluded from economic power structures, providing a blueprint for anyone ready to build wealth without traditional employment.

Casey Dofoo is not documenting a trend. He is defining a class.
